Upgrade for Popular Tourist Stopover at Moora

The Moora community, in the heart of the midlands district in Western Australia, today celebrated the opening of the upgraded Moora Caravan Park with a barbeque lunch and ribbon cutting ceremony.

Parliamentary Secretary for Western Australia, Gary Gray, said the Rudd Labor Government provided $100,000 to the Shire of Moora for the project from the $1 billion Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program.

"The Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program is a key part of our Economic Stimulus Plan and is delivering local jobs across Australia by building infrastructure for the long-term," Mr Gray said.

"Importantly, 17 local employees worked on the project during construction and an ongoing part-time position has been created for maintenance and service of the Park."

The upgrades included the construction of a camp kitchen and laundry, the installation of a perimeter fence and the development of two two-bedroom chalets, one featuring disability access.

This project will assist the Shire of Moora to build on its local tourism industry, and will offer quality services and facilities to visitors.

"Moora is a growing regional centre and the upgrades will provide user friendly and pleasant camping grounds for visitors," Mr Gray said.

"In partnership with every council in the country the Rudd Labor Government is delivering more than 3,300 small and larger scale building projects like the Moora Caravan Park Upgrade, including new and refurbished public libraries, sporting facilities, parks and playgrounds, and child care centres.

"The Program's remaining $220 million will be made available to councils in coming months, with the Shire of Moora set to receive at least another $30,000.

"This additional funding will support even more local jobs and rebuild even more of the nation's vital community infrastructure.

"I congratulate the Shire of Moora and the local community for helping deliver this much needed local project and helping to build a stronger region for the future."
