New Footpaths for Cunderdin

The Cunderdin community today celebrated the opening of new stretches of concrete footpaths - making life a little safer for the locals and visitors alike.

Parliamentary Secretary for Western and Northern Australia, Gary Gray, said the Rudd Labor Government provided $100,000 to the Shire of Cunderdin for the footpath project, valued at from the $1 billion Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program.

"The Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program is a key part of our Economic Stimulus Plan and is delivering local jobs in communities across Australia by building infrastructure for the long term," Mr Gray said.

The newly laid concrete paths replace the older slab style footpaths which were unsafe, uneven and prone to weather damage.

"The upgrades will provide safer walking for Cunderdin and Meckering pedestrians - and makes a practical addition to the local infrastructure," Mr Gray said.

"In partnership with every local council in the country, the Rudd Labor Government is funding over 3,300 projects like the Cunderdin footpaths upgrade.

"The Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program's remaining $220 million will be made available to councils in coming months, with the Shire of Cunderdin set to receive at least another $30,000.

"This additional funding will support even more local jobs and rebuild even more of the nation's vital community infrastructure.

"I congratulate the Shire of Cunderdin and the local community for helping deliver this practical local project, and helping to build a stronger region for the future."
